Pakistan National Day Reception

This event was held at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower in central London and hosted by the High Commissioner for Pakistan, Wajid Shamsul Hasan who made the opening address. The chief guest for the occasion was Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government who delivered the key note address. Both the Chairman and Director of Conservative Friends of Pakistan attended the event and were glad to see the supportive messages expressed by both the Minister and the High Commissioner on the close relationship between Britain and Pakistan. 

Entrepreneurism in the UK

Thursday evening saw the Conservative Friends of Pakistan (CFoP) host ‘Entrepreneurism in the UK’ at Conservative Campaign Headquarters in central London. The event was attended by over 50 guests and sought to engage with the British Pakistani community. 

CFoP Chairman meets PM Ashraf

H.E. Raja Pervez Ashraf, the Prime Minister of Pakistan visited 10 Downing Street and the House of Commons where he held meetings with David Cameron and a broad range of political figures.

Chequers Summit Joint Statement

The Prime Minister held trilateral talks with President Zardari and President Karzai this morning which paved the way for further work to be carried out in securing a peace settlement. The PM confimred that 'an unprecedented level of co-operation' had been reached in the meeting, with President Zardari stressing that Pakistan would give it's full support in assisting with the peace process in Afghanistan. The meeting also enabled a number of bilateral issues to be considered, and the leaders agreed a closer relationship between their respective security forces, amongst other peace building measures.The joint statement that was issued today can be accessed here in full:

PM delivers historic speech on EU

Today the Prime Minister made an historic speech on Britain's relationship with the EU. With the ongoing Eurozone crisis, the European Union is changing. These changes are raising a series of fundamental questions about the future of the EU and Britain’s place within it. These questions aren’t going away and we should be playing a leading role in shaping the debate.

Conservative Friends of Pakistan launches new website

Thank you for your support at the last election. Because of you, David Cameron is the first Conservative Prime Minister in 13 years and the Government’s plans to build a strong economy and a big society are in full swing. Now, to help us communicate with you, we've launched this new website.

PM hosts Eid Reception at 10 Downing Street

The Prime Minister hosted a reception at 10 Downing Street on 31st October to celebrate Eid Al-Adha which CFoP were invited to, as well as a number of people who were invited on CFoP's behalf. The event was a huge success and one that enabled the close links between Britain and the Muslim world to be celebrated. CFoP was proud to attend this reception and we were pleased to hear the warm words of support from the Prime Minister in his speech which can be accessed here:

Engagement with Pakistani politicians

Two separate events held in October enabled both the Chairman & Director of CFoP to meet Imran Khan and Faryal Talpur respectively. The Chairman attended a seminar at which Imran Khan was speaking and was then able to discuss a few of the issues that had been raised by Imran after the event, whilst also making him aware of CFoP and our objectives. In addition to this, the Director of CFoP attended the Different Faces of Pakistan exhibition at Asia House on 30th October, at which he met with Faryal Talpur. As well as being President Zardari's sister, Faryal is also a Member of the National Assembly in Pakistan.

CFoP at Conservative Party Conference

Conservative Friends of Pakistan enjoyed a successful first time at Party Conference in Birmingham this year. Whilst engaging with various members of the Parliamentary Party, include a number of Cabinet Ministers, on the work of CFoP we co-hosted an event with the High Commission for Pakistan and the report can be read here:

Launch event of CFoP - 10th May at the Savoy

The launch event of CFoP took place on 10th May at the Savoy Hotel in central London. This event was attended by the Prime Minister along with numerous members of the Cabinet, along with Pakistani dignitaries and a whole host of British Pakistanis who are supporters of the CFoP cause. This event established CFoP as a significant group within the Conservative Party's organisational structure and marked the beginning of a deep and meaningful conversation with the British Pakistani community that CFoP is currently engaged in.
